Paolo Turina, Head Stylist: Inside Elite Model Look

Paolo Turina is Head Stylist at the Elite Model Look World Final. He is in charge of putting together the looks the Finalists wear on photoshoots, video shoots and at the Final Show. We catch up with him to discuss his role, and what it takes to be a stylist in the fashion industry today.

What work do you have to do to prepare for styling?

Some of the outfits are from various designers, some are made especially for the Elite Model Look World Final, so I have been choosing some from the Vogue Runway website and spending time at factories to produce the specially made one.

What’s the best thing about your job?

The best part is traveling and working everyday with new, interesting people.

What are the challenges?

For this job, the huge number of Finalists is the challenge! I must make sure every outfit is prepared for each person.

Why did you want to work in fashion?

It came naturally, I never thought of doing anything else. Originally, I wanted to be a designer but as soon I got a job, I realised I did not like it, and a friend asked me: “why don’t you become a stylist?” And I’m still here!

If you didn’t work in fashion as a stylist, what would you be doing?

I never considered doing anything else!

If someone wants to become a fashion stylist, what’s your advice?

I’d tell them: get a better job!
