My Fashion Week With Sara Caballero

Sara Caballero has had an interesting journey through Elite Model Look. First scouted through Elite Model Look Chile in 2018, she re-entered in 2022 and landed a place at the World Final in Prague. There, she landed a model contract with Elite Model Management. She made her catwalk debut last May at Dior Resort show in Mexico, then walked at Haute Couture Fashion Week in July.

This season, she began in London at JW Anderson. She went on to walk for 16Arlington and Supriya Lele in London; Alberta Ferretti, Roberto Cavalli, Tom Ford, Philosophy and Dolce & Gabbana in Milan; and Christian Dior, Acne Studios, Victoria Beckham, Hermes, Ann Demeulemeester, Valentino, Stella McCartney, Mugler and Chanel in Paris. We caught up with Sara to find out what it was like.

This was your first major season at fashion week! What was it like to walk your very first show at JW Anderson in London?

It was definitely very unexpected. I really didn’t think it would happen.

What was your favourite moment during fashion week?

It’s difficult to chose a favourite moment during fashion week but I would say one of my my favourite ones would be in the Chloé show, when it ended we went dancing in the runway with all the models and the designer because it was her last show at the brand. It was very fun, just in that show many of my friends where booked too so I had the best time dancing with them on the runway.

Did you make any friends during the week?

Yes! I had actually never made that many friends that fast and easily in fashion. Also had a lot of reunion moments with models I had met before and made our connections even deeper. Made definitely very good friends this fashion week and I’m so happy for that.

Best fashion week story?

I actually was on Grandma mode for this fashion week, didn’t go to any after party because I had really early call times everyday. I think the most interesting thing that happened this fashion week was having my birthday on the very first day of Paris Fashion Week, so I enjoyed it on like 7 castings and fittings. At least I could see some friends in castings! Then later that day I got to enjoy my birthday with some friends eating tacos and got confirmed for Dior SS24 so it was the best birthday gift I could ever ask for!

Was fashion week what you expected?

Oh not at all. I didn’t expect to go to London or Milan because I had never been there. One day I was going to my very first day of uni and my Madrid agents texted me that they were sad because I was leaving to London the next day and I was so confused because I had no clue that I was supposed to go. And suddenly that ended in doing the whole Europe tour!

Where did you stay?

I actually had very different accommodations in every city. In London I stayed in a host family that had two children and a dog, they were SO nice and supporting that it impressed me, it was my first time in a hosted accommodation. Really enjoyed it. Then in Milan I stayed in a hotel where most of the models of the agency stay too and it was so fun to figure out that I had some friends there by meeting them on the reception. Everyday I figured out someone new. Finally in Paris I stayed as always on my best friends apartment. I really enjoy staying there because it’s like a disconnection of the fashion world.

What song(s) got you through the week?

This fashion week I listened repeatedly “Fue mejor” by Kali Uchis

What did you learn to do differently next time?

Every time that I work I learn more and more to care less about everything. To be more relaxed and less anxious. To live my life and be happy with what I already have. Whatever has to come will eventually come. And if you do good things, good things will come to you. To be nice and respectful, listen to the creatives, their expectations, their mood boards, to then do a good job. With time you learn that every brand has a very different catwalk choreography and mood, and to be capable to impersonate it well is a hard work, it’s literally acting! You have to be dynamic. Also learned that I should take Vitamin C from the very first day of Fashion Week!
